A clear colorless liquid.

COMPOSITION

• Synthetic oxytocin: 5MU;
• Solvent: Q.S. to 1 mL.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION

Oxytocin is a synthetic hormone of the neurohypophysis.  It improves the tone of unstriated muscles, especially that of the uterus, due to the effect of the hormone on the permeability of muscular fiber membranes for K+ ions and change in their potential.  In addition, the hormone stimulates the activity of the myoepithelium of the mammary gland and prolactin biosynthesis.

USES

The preparation is used for uterus hypotensia, uterus hemorrhage, uterus atony, retained placenta. Stimulating the involution of uterus. To treat postnatal agalactosis, pyometra. To prevent postnatal complications and others.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to the preparation.

PRECAUTIONS

None.

HOW SUPPLIED

5-mL vials No.10 and 20-mL, 100-mL vials of sterile solution for injection.

STORAGE

Store in a dry place protected from light at a temperature between +2°C and +25°C. After using the first dose from the vial, store it at a temperature between +2°C and +8°C and use within a week (List B).  Shelf life is 1 year from the date of manufacture.

DOSAGE

The preparation is administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection once in the following doses:

•   Cattle, horses: 8 mL to 10 mL (40 MU to 50 ÌU);

•   Sheep, goats, pigs: 2 mL to 6 mL (10 MU to 30 ÌU);

• Dogs: 0.5 mL to 2 mL (3 MU to 10 MU);

•   Cats: 0.5 mL to 1 mL (3 MU to 5 ÌU).

If required, repeat administration in 40 minutes.  Where a quick effect is required, administer intravenously having previously diluted with an isotonic solution of sodium chloride (1:10) and reduced the dose down to 1/4.
