Oxytetravet 20% sterile solution

Form of application: Injection.

Active ingredient: Oxytetracycline hydrochloride.

Packaging: vials 20-mL, Vials 100 ml, Flasks 10 mL.

A clear, oily light yellow to dark yellow liquid.

Composition

1 mL of Oxytetravet 20% contains 200 mg of oxytetracycline hydrochloride.

Pharmacological action

Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group.  It has a bacteriostatic action on microorganisms. This action is based on inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria.

Uses

The preparation is used to treat diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline (Escherichia coli, Pasteurella spp, Clostridias, Staphylococcus aureus, rickettsia, mycoplasma, spirochetes, actinomycetes (Actinomyces) and others) such as enteritis, salmonellosis, dysentery, endometritis, pneumonia, diseases of the skin and urogenital system.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the preparation; animals with affected kidneys and liver. Do not administer alone with bactericidal preparations (penicillin).

Precautions

Administer to one area not more than 20 mL for cattle, 10 mL for pigs, and 5 mL for other animals.
Animals may only be slaughtered for meat in 12 days of the last use of the preparation; milk is fit for food in 6 days.

10-mL, 20-mL, 100-mL vials.

Storage

Store protected from light in a dry place at a room temperature (List B).  Shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture.

Dosage

The preparation is administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection in the following doses.

Oxytetravet 20%:
1 mL/10 kg of body weight once every two days for 3 to 5 days.
